Art Events in Almaty

This month, as part of our museumwide “Artist Spotlight: Abdirashit Sydykhanov” program, we are following in this experimental artist’s footsteps and exploring symbols and textures. In this workshop, we will first design our own, family or personal, tañbas (clan symbols). Then we will adorn our tañbas with grains and paint, just like Sydykhanov did in his works.

On 12 April, the Almaty Museum of Arts is dedicating the day to the artist Abdrashit Sydykhanov. The «Artist Spotlight» series of events features a programme of lectures, guided tours, performances and workshops designed to provide a deeper insight into his artistic practice.

The poignant story of love and separation, the struggle of sentiment and duty, of personal and public, the conflict of traditions and inner desires – the immortal plot of "Karagoz" by Mukhtar Auezov is very well known.

This Qozy Körpesh and Bayan Sulu day (in honor of that legendary 13th century couple), join us for an evening of playful paired and group drawing. Bring someone or come by yourself and we’ll match you up with a drawing buddy!
